Thursday, October 30, 1997: Mc Laren Park Course On the Verge

My God, has it really been over two months since I updated this page? Sheesh, what a slacker. We have actually been doing a lot of work lately, but have not had time to bring all of you up to speed. Get yourself a cup o' joe, or whatever it is that you drink when you are surfing the web, and dig in.

McLaren:

Ross Hammond has been doing a great job on the Mc Laren Park Proposal, organizing a demonstration for the instructors of physical education in the San Francisco Unified School District, and bringing in the likes of Leonard Muise, Stick Dissoway, Conrad Damon and Anni Kreml to help out. Ross wrote me tonight to tell me about a meeting he had last night with local community organization The Friends of Mc Laren Park, and everything he had to say is great.

  • The Friends of McLaren back the efforts of the SFDGC to put in a course
  • The Friends of Parks and Recreation have a program to match community donations for park improvement dollar for dollar up to $10,000
  • The final say from the city is probably between two and three months off
  • Tentative installation date of May, 1998
  • Physical education instuctors from all of the middle high schools surounding the park have written letters in support of a course in Mc Laren

We Need Your Help

Or, to be more blunt, we need your cash. We have set our goal for funding at $8,ooo, and it has been our ability to raise the first few thousand in a very short time period that really caught the attention of the department of parks and recreation in S.F. Donations are Tax-Deductible. Ross Hammond is currently accepting pledges for cash, and we will not be collecting on the pledges until the course is approved. No amount is too small, and all amounts are TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Send your pledge to Ross Hammond so that the next time you come to the Bay Area you can play more than one course a day.
