8.13.98: Q's Evil Brother Fred Spotted at Aquatic Park! The San Francisco Chronicle reported today, Thursday, August 13, that Q's evil twin Fred had been spotted in Aquatic Park last week, terrorizing baskets with ace runs and birdie putts. While not necessarily dangerous, "Fred" will do his best to get you hooked on disc golf, going so far as to give you discs and free tips. If you are adverse to having fun without a huge expense, if you do not like to spend time outdoors with good friends and a hearty challenge, do not speak to "Fred" if you see him. Please go back inside your house and turn the TV on --anything but the learning channel.
SFDGC PicnicOn Saturday, August 8, the San Francisco Disc Golf Club hosted a picnic in The Presidio. Anyone with an interest in disc sports was invited to attend, and we had a great time. Volunteers brought out 5 temporary pole holes, and we spent the afternoon enjoying the fine Thai Chicken of Ross Hammond, and making up new holes for hours on end. There was a fantastic mix of beginners, intermediate, and seasoned pros. Conrad Damon brought a friend of his named Mark from LA who could throw a disc over 550 feet! Mike Gunnel's girlfriend Alix spent the afternoon practicing her 150 foot approach, and Cooper and his crew played hole after hole after hole. The picnic was such a success that we are going to make it a monthly affair. The cost of a permit to reserve a section of Golden Gate Park is only $25, and it would be a great way to get new people involved in the sport, as well as give the existing golfers a chance to get together and hang out, and play on pole holes in S.F. city limits --even if it is only once a month.
Do You Believe in Karma? On Thursday, August 6, Jeff Fiedler, Greg Quiroga and Joel Verby took Chronicle Outdoor Editor Paul Mc Hugh and staff photographer Kat Wade for an introductory round of 18 at Aquatic Park. You can read the article on the |
