Provisional Course Walk-Through: 5:30pm 8.30.99

On Monday, August 30, the Department of Recreation and Parks conducted a walk-through of the proposed provisional disc golf course in Golden Gate Park. On hand were a number of Recreation and Park Officials, as well as Mike Nicoson of the Friends of Rec and Park, and a cadre of community members, many of whom happened to be disc golfers. The walk-through was an opportunity for Park Officials and the SFDGC to iron out some of the finer details of the proposal. Topics covered including tee pad placement, responsibilities for maintaining the tees, ability to maintain "fairways" in the tall grass, dogs on leash and more.

All told, the meeting was an "uneventful success," and we are really looking forward to the Parks and Planning Sub-Committee Meeting on Tuesday, September 7th. If you can attend that meeting, it would greatly aid our cause. The meeting takes place at 2:00 PM in the Commission Room of the McLaren Lodge, located at 501 Stanyan. Club Update: 26 August, 1999

Ross has been in constant communication with the Department of Recreation and Parks, tirelessly working on our proposal for a provisional disc golf course in Golden Gate Park. OK, he took a week off of work and working on disc golf to go play in the 1999 World Championships, but the stories he tells make playing in the Worlds sound more tiring than staying home and working the long hours he does. We tried to get our plastic to the Worlds, but due to communication problems, our discs arrived one day late for the Fly Mart. Bygones.

Heading down the homestretch of the Nor Cal Series Tour, Q leads the Advanced Men's division by 11 points over Tony McDivott of Santa Cruz. Joel Verby (SFDGC #9) is fighting it out for third. Interesting point to note: In the amatuer divisions of the Nor Cal Series, only your best 6 tournament finishes count towards the points race. Q is on track for Road Warrior, and has played every tournament on the Nor Cal Series this year. Tony has only played in 4 events, and he's never finished worse than Q in any of them. One way or the other, it looks like the Sierra Shoot-Out at Grass Valley on Labor Day weekend is really going to live up to its name. It also looks like Jeff Fiedler will make it into the Open Mens Skins Round for the third year in a row, no small feat considering he's competing against the likes of the Lissaman's, Harold Hampton, Roger Cansellor, Shawn Sinclair and Mike Ruzicka --to name but a few of the top Nor Cal pros.
